SAMPLE DAILY SCHEDULE

GRADE 1 LITERACY/ELA PROGRAM
Benchmark Advance/Adelante will be used for the Grade 1 Literacy curriculum. Highlights of the Benchmark program:

YOUR CHILD WILL EXPLORE THE WORLD THROUGH TEXT BY:
- Matching letters and sounds to sound out and write simple words. Students should be able to sound out and write words with short vowel sounds, final -e, common long vowel spellings, blends, and r-controlled vowels.
- Reading and writing first grade high frequency words, decodable or not, with automaticity.
- Writing all letters correctly.
- Writing narrative, opinion, and expository texts that follow rules of standard English grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.
IN READING AND WRITING, YOUR CHILD WILL BE ABLE TO:
- Retell stories, including characters, setting and sequence of events.
- Retell information texts, including the topic and the important details.
- Demonstrate understanding of the topic of the informational text by using the text features.
- Figure out the meaning of unknown words using picture clues, context clues and background knowledge.
- Compare and contrast two texts on the same topic.

GRADE 1 MATHEMATICS
For our Grade 1 Mathematics program, we will be using enVision Florida because it connects problem-based learning with Visual Learning and includes a standards-based curriculum.

For our Grade 1 Social Studies program, we will be using Florida Studies Weekly. The new Florida Studies Weekly is:
- Florida specific content
- Interactive
- Connects students to Florida and National history
- Celebrates all voices and experiences from Florida history
- Supports Florida’s B.E.S.T. Standards for ELA and Math
Weekly Units
Social Studies will be taught for 45 minutes daily giving students a more in-depth understanding of the weekly content. Literacy, Arts and Computer Science will be integrated into the Social Studies curriculum through hands-on classroom projects related to the weekly content.
